My idea is that the kimono and a man's suit are built
upon the same kind of structure.

• Kimono ⇔ jacket and pants


• Obi(belt) ⇔ tie


• Nagajuban ⇔ shirt etc.

The shapes and elements of both have hardly changed over time. And the fun in wearing either outfit is in creating exceptions and variations to the rules.
